Each year, a growing number of people from around the world travel to Switzerland to end their lives peacefully at a Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) clinic. VAD has been legal in Switzerland since 1941. Under Swiss law, VAD is not limited to terminally ill patients as long as the subject is in full possession of their decision-making capacity.
Silvan Luley, a civil rights lawyer and board member of Dignitas, will join us on Zoom to discuss his organization and his work. Dignitas was the first right-to-die organization founded in Switzerland in May, 1988. Swiss law permits foreigners to receive aid in dying as long as there is no selfish motive and the patient is able to sign their consent. Dignitas promotes assisted dying legislation world-wide and was instrumental in spawning at least two other similar organizations in Switzerland.
Our second speaker, HSSD board member Christie Golemb, went to Switzerland with her mother last year after her devesting diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease. After suffering with her loss of memories and independence, Christie’s mother decided to end her life peacefully at Pegasos. Christie will tell us about how this decision was made and how it impacted her family. She’ll also disclose details of the costs, travel arrangements, qualifications, application process, and the procedure itself.
Join us to learn about the costs, travel details, planning, qualifications, application process, and how the procedure works. Our presenters will also be available during the program to answer your questions. Advance registration is required for this meeting. Please click this link to register:
