The next selection in Hemlock Society’s Right to Die Film Series is Notes For My Son, a film from Argentina based on a true story. Maria is a woman battling terminal cancer who writes a tender notebook about love, life, and death for her young son to remember her by. As her illness progresses, she struggles to cope with unbearable pain and her inevitable death. Ultimately, she decides to end her life on her own terms with terminal sedation, but her final wish becomes a complicated ordeal due to legal bureaucracy and the hospital’s desire to avoid negative publicity. Those who have lost a loved one to cancer will recognize the realities confronting Maria and the people who love her. The story will be a springboard for our conversation on issues surrounding the right to die with dignity.  HSSD founder and board member Faye Girsh will lead the discussion. The film is available now on Netflix.

Cast: Valeria Bertucceli, Esteban Lamothe, and Julian Sorin
Directed by Carlos Sorin

Airing now on Netflix in English and Spanish
