What makes a life worth living? This is a question asked in the award-winning Japanese film, Plan 75. In a fictional dystopian society, the Japanese government devises Plan 75 to address the burden of an aging population by encouraging free voluntary euthanasia for anyone over age 75. The story centers around Michi (Chieko Baisho), a 78-year-old with no relatives, who lives alone and was working until her employer found a convenient excuse to lay off all their elderly staff. An underlying theme of loneliness among the elderly is woven throughout this poignant film.
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a rating of 94%. One reviewer wrote, “Those who let the sensitivity of Plan 75 wash over them will walk out of the theatre and immediately call someone they love.” Watch the trailer: Click Here
