Derek Humphry and Faye Girsh discuss the history of the Right to Die Movement
Derek Humphry, founder of the Hemlock Society and author of Final Exit, in conversation with Faye Girsh, a longtime leader in the right to die movement and founder of Hemlock Society of San Diego.
Faye and Derek discuss the history of Hemlock Society’s attempts to change assisted dying laws, Janet Atkins and Jack Kevorkian, the World Federation of Right to Die Societies, and the founding of Caring Friends, a precursor to Final Exit Network. Derek shares the real world events behind his 1978 book Jean’s Way. The book describes how he helped his cancer-riddled terminally-ill wife with her request to end her life in England. The book has been published in six different languages. It started a world-wide conversation and led to the creation of the Hemlock Society and the publication of the book Final Exit.
