You are in the Process of Dying

A husband relates the story of his wife’s experience with Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) in Manitoba, Canada.

In Canada, different provinces handle MAID differently. Two things stand out:

1. In Manitoba, a doctor, a social worker and a nurse, under the Winnipeg Health Authority, provide a referral source for medical practitioners who recognize assistance in dying is a medical service beyond the scope of their present practice or who won’t participate for reasons of conscience.

2. One of the two doctors who attended to Mr. Ayre’s wife’s during her hospital stay was not only very frank about her prognosis, he laid out very clearly ALL 4 options.
